MCAS Cherry Point Air Show - The East Coast’s largest Marine Corps Air Station will again open its gates to the public during its now annual open house highlighting the latest in Marine Corps war fighting technology and military aviation. Jarman Opry Theatre - Enjoy classic country, gospel, blue grass Christmas show at the Masonic Theatre in Historic Downtown New Bern. Show is from 7 pm to 9 pm. Tryon Palace South Lawn Concert Series: NC Symphony - Pack a picnic and come early to enjoy the beautiful summer blooms of the Palace gardens before the concert begins. “On Golden Pond” This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, with heart palpitations and a failing memory - she is ten years younger and delights in all the small things that have enriched their long life together. Time, they know, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. All shows begin at 8 pm with Sunday matinees at 2 pm. Coastal Women’s Shelter 5K Run/Walk – Coastal Women’s Shelter will be sponsoring its 11th Annual “Run for Shelter/Stop Domestic Violence In Its Tracks “5K Run/Walk Fundraiser.” Approximately 100 runners participated in the 1st annual 5K event and participation has now grown to over 200. Coastal Women’s Shelter is a comprehensive domestic violence program supporting Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties. First New Bern Literary Symposium – New Bern will be abuzz with words, of both the spoken and written variety, during the upcoming First Annual Literary Symposium. Two workshops will take place on May 16 along with a Short Stories and Children/Youth Books presentation. A Reception, Book Signing and Awards Ceremony at the Bank of the Arts located at 317 Middle Street from 7-9pm. Two Panel Discussions will be held on May 17 at the Tryon Palace Auditorium. A Luncheon will be held from Noon to 1:30pm on May 17 at The Chelsea Restaurant with keynote speaker Joan Carris, author of the recently published Welcome to the Bed & Biscuit.
