Enjoy Antique Cars in New Bern, NC

New Bern Antique Car Show

We truly enjoyed the antique car show in New Bern, NC on Sunday afternoon.

Over 500 antique cars were displayed.  The cars came from all over the country.

New Bern, Coastal North Carolina, and the Carolina Colours community offer so many recreational, educational, cultural and historical opportunities, it’s hard to decide how to spend our Sunday afternoons.

Get Hammered by Habitat for Humanity, October 17th – 18th

Hi to All Carolina Colours Residents!

On October 17th and 18th, Habitat for Humanity of Craven County is hosting the Habitat Crazies.  In those two days, two homes will be raised and siding, roofing and dry wall installed!  It will be an awesome event!  Habitat expects upwards of 150 to 200 volunteers for each of those days.  Hopefully, you will choose to be one of those volunteers.

We are in need of hammers.  Do you have an extra hammer you can spare?  The Carolina Colours Welcome Centre (Sales Office) is a drop off point for hammer collections.  The hammer drop off deadline is Thursday, October 15th.

Stay tuned for more information and other opportunities to help with this community effort.  Accept the challenge to “get involved” and help build us build homes for two deserving Craven County families.  One house will become “home” to an young New Bern couple while the other house will become “home” to a refugee family with six children.  You can make a difference in the lives of these families on Saturday and Sunday, October 17th – 18th.

Several of you have suggested a “building shower” where you can help by purchasing needed items for these new homes.  We’ll keep you posted on this effort as our plans progress.

In the meantime, commit to “Get Hammered” with Craven County’s Habitat community service organization!

Please feel free to contact me at 252-571-2421 to share your thoughts or ask questions.

Thanks so very much for your time and consideration of this very special Habitat for Humanity project.

Pat Peebles, Carolina Colours Resident

North Carolina History Education Center Opening in 2010

NC History Education Center

Rendering of NC History Education Center

Opening in 2010, the North Carolina History Education Center will debut during New Bern NC’s 300th Anniversary Celebration.

Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens, the Center’s operator, has as its mission “to engage present and future generations in the history of North Carolina from early settlement and development of statehood through the mid twentieth century by collecting, interpreting and preserving objects, buildings, landscapes and events that enrich understanding of the making of our state and nation”.    The Education Center will undoubtedly become a key component in fulfilling this mission.

The new Education Center will encompass 48,000 square feet of building on six acres adjacent to the Palace gardens on the Trent River.  Visitors will find four major history museum galleries, a performance hall, and other educational spaces.  New Bern and Carolina Colours real estate owners  are anxiously awaiting the grand opening of this wonderful addition to the already diverse historical programs available to New Bern property owners and visitors.

New Bern’s Farmer’s Market

Fresh Cut Flowers

Fresh Cut Flowers

A downtown New Bern NC landmark, the Farmer’s Market at 421 South Front Street, was established as an outlet for area farmers in 1984.  It is still delivering residents of New Bern and its neighborhoods such as Carolina Colours with locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as an outlet for local crafts people.  But there is more than just fruits and vegetables, there’s something for everyone.  Gardeners will delight in the locally grown vegetables and bedding plants, herbs and perennials.  Look for cut flowers and wreaths and tables laden with jams, jellies, pickles and flavored vinegars.  Who can resist homemade breads and baked goods?  Local artists offer woodcrafts, jewelry, photographs, prints and original paintings of many of New Bern’s historic homes and buildings.

The Market is open from 7 am to 1 pm every Saturday from March through December.
