Carolina Colours Community Golf Course
Designed by Bill Love, the architect selected to renovate Olympic Country Club for the 2012 US Open, the Carolina Colours Golf Course has rapidly become recognized by many as the premier layout in the central coastal region of North Carolina. Unlike many regional courses located on flat and/or cleared land, our course fits seamlessly within a forested environment with rolling terrain. Carefully integrated into the residential land plan, never will there be fairways lined with homes and condos; homes are located on only one side of any hole, if at all. The homes that have golf course views are generally buffered by both setback and trees.
- Fun to play for all skill levels, round after round
- “Walk in the Park” aesthetics
These objectives were achieved by a combination of design and programming. Featuring not only 6 teeing locations, but wide, often interlocking boxes allow variation in distance and angle round to round, providing great variety for frequently playing golfers. Fairways are generally wide, and greens large, with each green having at least 6 different areas for pin placement, again adding variety to each round, while helping to preserve the pristine condition of the bent grass greens. There need be no long, forced carries from the shorter tees, but as the player moves closer to the tip, the challenges get more formidable. Bunkering is both strategic and useful, providing great visual target lines.
The layout takes full advantage of the beautiful natural terrain. With two long winding bridges across Brice Creek, the player momentarily loses sight of all but trees and water. And with most greens framed by the natural forest, not structures, the visual makes even non-golfers love the ride or walk around the course. Carolina Colours is a layout which, while associated with real estate, has the feel of a course standing alone in nature. One will rarely ever see Carolina golf real estate like this, where preserving the course aesthetic takes precedent over the homes for sale.
Affordability is provided through innovative programming. No other course in New Bern, or the surrounding region, provides the myriad playing opportunities available at the Carolina Colours Golf Club. A semi-private equity club, the player can elect to become an equity member, with the greatest privileges and the lowest dues, or one can become an annual member, with dues a bit higher. Alternatively, the player can walk-on and pay green and cart fees, set for 2016 at $50 per round (twilight discounts available), a rate hard to imagine for a course the caliber of the Carolina Colours golf course.
